The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its EIB Global Directorate – Corporate Finance and Global Activities Department – Advisory Services Division – Infrastructure and Corporates Unit, at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE
Duration: 6 months (fixed start date: 1st September/October 2025)

Please note that the Programme is created under the Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF) and is open to young nationals from one of the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Region (Algeria, Egypt, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia) and ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) Region, all 79 ACP Partner Countries (please see Provisions section).

Objective of the traineeship
EIB Global is the Directorate of the Bank responsible for activities outside the European Union. Launched in January 2022, it supports climate action, economic growth, and development through loans, equity instruments, technical assistance and blended finance in the Southern Neighbourhood, Eastern Neighbourhood, Enlargement countries, Latin America and Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and the Pacific regions.
The technical assistance programmes offered by EIB Global are primarily designed to support the preparation and implementation of public and private sector projects that are eligible for EIB financing, aligned with EU objectives and which strategically assist EIB Global partner countries to meet their sustainable development objectives. Advisory programmes may also target upstream activities that improve the investment environment and facilitate project development and implementation by means of capacity strengthening, policy and regulatory support, sector level engagements so as to enhance EIB’s projects pipeline in eligible countries and/or sectors.
The Infrastructure and Corporates Unit of the Advisory Services Division within the Corporate Finance and Global Activities (CFGA) Department seeks a trainee in order to support the Unit's advisory experts in the drafting and oversight of preparation, implementation and monitoring of Technical Assistance (TA) for infrastructure and climate advisory assignments in partner countries outside the EU.
The Unit would need your support for the following tasks:
Contribute to conducting country analyses for eligibility to participate in ongoing flagship advisory programmes in renewable energy (such as DESIREE, RISE, EGRE) but also in green hydrogen (Green Hydrogen Fund and EEDF).
Support to the Unit's TA experts in the approval process and the implementation of the new Global Gateway project preparation facility for Sub-Saharan Africa.
Input and data tracking of all Technical Assistance and Advisory Services assignments for the Africa Europe Green Energy Initiative (AEGEI) EU platform on renewable energy.
Update the Advisory software ASApp with project implementation activities that are being carried out by the Team.
Support the preparation of a database and a presentations of the Unit's assignments, split by country, sectors and TA activities.
Coordinate the gathering of data to insert in Cooperation Agreements with regards to advisory services with partner countries and/or private sponsors.
Support the Unit's communication activities with regards to media campaigns and publication of signatures concerning TA agreements, kick-off events etc.
You would:
Gain experience in working in the largest multilateral lender and in an international environment.
Learn about the EU external policy objectives and relations with partner countries outside of the EU (East and Southern Neighborhood, Balkans and ACP regions, Latin America), with a focus on the various mandates.
Gain a comprehensive overview and understanding of Technical Assistance and Advisory Services for investments in climate change mitigation and adaptation (such as sustainable and urban infrastructure investment, clean technology, agricultural value chains and the circular economy), social impact investment also in health and education, investment in innovation and digital transformation.
Be exposed to other Departments of the Bank and to external stakeholders such as the European Commission, Member States' bilateral agencies, UN organisations.
Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities will be to:
Provide support for the implementation of Technical Assistance and advisory programmes related to the Bank's ongoing activity under the Samoa Agreement mandate in Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries, the Bank's mandate in South Africa, and the current NDICI 2021-2027 Multi-annual Financial Framework (MFF) for the Southern Neighbourhood, Eastern Neighbourhood, Enlargement countries, Latin America and Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific regions.
Support senior colleagues in overseeing Technical Assistance assignments in various sectors such as sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, green hydrogen, digitalisation and urban instrastructure, and with different geographical coverage, including by providing support with internal and external reporting obligations.
Coordinate with colleagues from other Departments and provide support with the drafting of briefings, for example for communication purposes and for participation in events, as well as with updating and disseminating information concerning the Bank's advisory services outside of the EU.
Contribute to drafting internal presentation materials and updating internal databases.
Participate in meetings and working groups with both internal and external stakeholders.
Academic qualifications and professional skills
Final year of studies or University degree of a MENA/ACP partner country, preferably at Master's level in Economics, Finance, Business or a related field.
Excellent drafting, analytical and synthesis skills, including drafting of presentations.
Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Some relevant professional experience (less than 2 years), preferably gained in a financial institution, international organisation, NGO or civil society organisation would be an advantage.
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and/or French is required. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
