The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.

The internship is contributing to the CoMixS project which seeks to study how to best support artifact design activities using mixed-display ecosystems. CoMixS is funded by the FNR under the INTER 2024 program and is running from 2025-2029.

How will you contribute?

Multi-display environments combine multiple high-end interactive displays, such as wall-sized displays or tabletops, potentially complemented by wearable devices. They can render large quantities of information and can accommodate multiple people to support collaborative work.

Aim of this internship is to explore how tangible objects can be used in such an environment to interact with geospatial data. To do so, the candidate will work with state-of-the-art interactive tabletops and wall-displays available at LIST to design and prototype a series of tangible interaction techniques, suitable to explore geospatial data.

The internship includes the following tasks:

  • Get familiar with the technologies used in LIST for multi-display applications and study different contexts of use
  • Rethink the available tangible objects and their design
  • Design suitable interaction techniques based on tangible objects
  • Prototype a selection of techniques
  • Create a demonstrator to showcase the developed techniques

Education

  • Master student in Computer Science, Media Technology, Digital Design, or similar, preferably doing their thesis

Experience and skills

  • Knowledgeable in Human Computer Interaction or in Digital Design
  • Knowledgeable in CSS and JavaScript
  • Ability to develop functional prototypes
  • Capacity to generate new ideas, concepts, and solutions
  • Good communication skills

Language skills

  • Good knowledge of English
