The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its Corporate Strategy and Market Assessment Division, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Trainee.

Specific Post Environment:
The Corporate Strategy & Market Assessment Division (CS&MA) supports the EIF’s business development and strategic decision-making processes through strategic analysis, market assessments studies, market surveys, and applied research.
Overall objective:
Your overall objective will be to:
- Contribute to the division survey projects, i.e. European and global surveys of venture capital (VC) and private equity mid-market (PE MM) fund managers.
- Work on developing certain strategic projects, with a particular focus on the division’s SME guarantee digital platform project under the TechEU umbrella.
Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the senior of the team, you shall:
- Support execution of EIF surveys with a focus on equity markets – VC and PE (this includes data analysis, support preparation of related market reports, working papers);
- Support the team in developing and implementing tools focused on data display/data sharing (dashboarding), notably in the context of research and survey work;
- In relation to the SME guarantee digital platform project: assist in designing, testing and refining the SME journey on the platform, and contribute to papers, business cases and internal presentations.
Expected outcome:
- Timely delivery of reports and other relevant documents related to the MAR survey exercise, for example reports (e.g., EIF Working Papers), presentations, datasets.
- Proposals for future survey topics and relevant question sets.
- In relation to the division’s other projects, timely delivery of documents (reports, internal notes, business cases for new digital tools) prepared under guidance of and in cooperation with senior colleague.
Qualifications:
- University degree (preferably at Master’s level, or on-going studies at advanced stage), for example in the field of Finance or (Business) Economics, or other fields indicating familiarity with data and data analysis, as well as ability to develop digital solutions.
- Familiarity with working with data and other modern digital solutions, including AI tools
- Ease with IT applications and data analyses, reports and presentations;
- Thorough knowledge of standard Microsoft M365 applications, in particular Excel and PowerPoint;
- Experience in using data visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau) would be a plus;
- Familiarity with statistical software packages (Stata) and/or Python programming is an advantage;
- Some knowledge and understanding of EIF’s mission, activities and products and of markets and legal frameworks relevant to EIF business, as well as policies and priorities in that context;
- Additional knowledge of data retention and/or data exploring tools would be a plus.
- Familiarity with PE/VC investment practices will be considered an advantage but is not a prerequisite
Competencies:
- Good analytical, drafting and synthesis skills;
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; knowledge of further EU languages considered an asset;
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team;
- Ability to work productively and under tight deadlines;
- Demonstrate initiative, capability to work autonomously under given objectives and time constraints; organise own work effectively.
