We are currently looking for a Laboratory Assistant – Laborantin (m/f) for our Legal Medicine department, Forensic Genetics service, for a permanent position on a full-time basis (40h/week)
ABOUT THE LABORATOIRE NATIONAL DE SANTÉ:
The LNS is a major player in Luxembourg’s healthcare sector, serving the country’s patients, doctors and hospitals. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the LNS is a multidisciplinary public institution organized around six medical departments, two of which are designated as national diagnostic centers for human genetics and pathology respectively.
The LNS employs around 400 highly qualified staff with diverse backgrounds. The main purpose of the LNS is to develop analytical activities and scientific expertise relating to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases; to act as a national control or reference laboratory; and to carry out forensic missions. The LNS also collaborates with the University of Luxembourg and other biomedical research institutions, both nationally and internationally, on research and teaching activities.
In particular, in the field of diagnostics, the LNS covers the following fields of application: medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine, environmental medicine, morphological and molecular pathology, and clinical genetics, as well as sequencing for rare diseases, oncology and pathogens.
ABOUT THE FORENSIC GENETICS SERVICE:
The service provides Expert assessments and opinions based on the tools of molecular biology in order to grant objective evidence interpretation during crime scene investigations, forensic investigations and at court. In addition, the service is accredited by OLAS (the Luxembourg Accreditation and Surveillance Office) in accordance with ISO 17025.
RESPONSABILITIES:
- Collect or assist the expert in collecting specimens for analysis;
- Routinely perform tasks related to all analysis stages: DNA extraction, quantification, amplification, capillary electrophoresis and fragment analysis;
- Conduct tasks related to MPS (high-throughput sequencing) analyses;
- Software processing of results;
- Preparation and management of reagent and consumable stocks;
- Maintenance and metrology of laboratory equipment and automated systems;
- Maintenance of laboratory technical facilities;
- Application of procedures and work integrated into the Quality Assurance process;
- Compliance with protocols, written instructions, and technical sheets;
- Participate in improving existing techniques, developing new analyses, and technically validating methods;
- Adhere rigorously to established hygiene, safety and biohazard protocols.
PROFILE:
- BAC+ 3 or equivalent training and/or experience as molecular biology laboratory technician; Proven molecular biology knowledge validated by a diploma;
- Experience in PCR, fragment analysis, capillary sequencing and MPS would be an asset;
- Experience in quality assurance (ISO 17025);
- Windows IT literacy and use of office tools;
- Knowledge of hygiene and safety rules in biological risk management;
- Very good organizational and communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to work with rigor and attention to detail;
- Strong sense of confidentiality and professional responsibility;
- Proficiency in French (spoken and written) and good professional English skills. Knowledge of German or Luxemburgish will be considered as an asset.
