How will you contribute?

You will be mainly in charge of:

  • Operational optimisation of a position sensitive detection setup for the purpose of keV Scanning Transmission Ion Microscopy
  • Conception and deployment of approaches to integrate Time-of-Flight measurement capabilities into the setup
  • Experimental investigations of material science related samples by using the corresponding prototype instrument npSCOPE, developed during an EU research project within the AINA group at LIST (further information available at www.npscope.eu )
  • Interact with researchers and engineers of the AINA group to realise your own concept ideas in the framework of the internship
  • Evaluate and treat the corresponding experimental data for examination of the setup performance and optimisation

Education

  • Bac+3, bachelor’s degree in physics or related education; ongoing Master Studies
  • The proposed internship can be the subject for a Master Thesis

Experience and skills

  • Experience in the domain of experimental physics or related subjects
  • Some engineering (mechanical or electronics) knowledge as well as vacuum technology related knowledge is an asset
  • Skills in data evaluation, interpretation and treatment
  • Good teamwork and communication skills, with an open mindset towards interaction, guidance, constructive feedback and growth

Language skills

  • Strong skills in both written and spoken English
