The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its Sustainable Growth Division (“SUSG”) in the Equity Investments (“EI”) department, within the Investment Office (“IO”) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Trainee - Sustainable Growth Impact Analysis.

Duration: 5 months & Starting date: September / October 2026

Specific Post Environment:

The SUSG team is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and closing investments in European funds focused on climate transition, digital transformation, and strategic sectors supporting Europe’s industrial resilience. They also monitor the existing equity portfolio and develop targeted market intelligence in Europe.

As part of EIF’s reorganization, the Sustainable Growth Division is adopting a more thematic approach, requiring detailed knowledge of partners and their portfolio companies to align investments and deal flow with policy objectives.

Activities involve direct collaboration with other EIF Front Office teams and coordination with internal and external services.

Overall objective:

The project aims to gather and analyse quantitative data on the impact and added value of EIF’s private equity investments, at both fund and final beneficiary levels, to inform future mandates and policy decisions. Your overall objective will be to:

  • Quantify the positive effects of EIF investments using indicators such as fund stake, amounts raised/invested, value creation (EBITDA growth, deleverage), and at company level: jobs created, sales and EBITDA evolution, and additional financing secured.

  • Support the future design of new mandates and policy requirements while providing the trainee with insights into EIF’s private equity activities, particularly in Sustainable Growth, and exposure to market and sector intelligence.

Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the senior of the team, you shall:

  • Gather and analyse data on SUSG funds and portfolio companies, including allocations, transaction types, thematic focus, gender balance, and value creation.

  • Develop benchmarking and data-gathering tools to maintain and update the database.

  • Assess potential integration of these tools into eFront and EIF operating processes.

Expected outcome:

  • Creation of the internal database with fund and underlying company information, designed with the option for future integration with eFront (with automatic data gathering).

Qualifications:

  • University degree (or on-going studies at advanced stage) in Finance, Economics, Management or related field

  • Prior hands-on experience in Data Analytics

  • Good knowledge of project management principles, methods, and practices.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of EIF’s mission and activities

  • Understanding of Private Equity investments

  • Good understanding of Databases

  • Relevant academic background in banking/finance and/or market research and/or economic development and international relations would be a plus

Competencies:

  • Advanced MS Office skills and other software (notably Business Objects)

  • Good analytical and synthesis skills

  • Fluency in English

  • Demonstrate initiative, capability to work autonomously under given objectives/milestones and organise their own work effectively

  • Good communication skills – both written and oral

  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts, tools, and methodologies

  • Excellent team-working abilities.
