The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its European Commission Mandates Unit of the Product Design and Mandate Development for EC and EIB Division in the Mandate Design and Product Development Department, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Trainee – Mandate Management.

Duration: 5 months & Starting date: September 2026

Specific Post Environment:

The EIF’s Product Design and Mandate Development for EC and EIB Division is part of the Mandate Design and Product Development Department, Investment Office. The main objective of this division is relationship management as well as development and implementation of mandates from European Commission and EIB.

The Trainee will be part of the European Commission Mandates Unit, which is responsible for management of the InvestEU, largest mandate under EIF’s management from European Commission.

Overall objective:

To develop more robust business analytics system for the management of InvestEU. You will contribute by:

  • Assist with data quality reviews in the corporate information management system, contributing to more robust analytical insights into the deployment status of the InvestEU. This will provide the selected candidate with a direct overview of policy objectives as well as EIF’s product offering under the InvestEU mandate.

  • Building on the above, identify ways to expand / improve system datapoints, which can further enhance and develop business analytics and reporting with the objective to better address mandator needs.

Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the senior of the team, you shall:

  • Perform structured data quality reviews aimed at supporting EIF’s obligations towards European Commission.

  • Enrich and refine mandate datapoints in close collaboration with mandate managers, improving the consistency and analytical relevance of dataset.

  • Support the development of analytical views, dashboards and reporting outputs leveraging the improved dataset.

Expected outcome:

  • Have a solid understanding of how EIF’s develops and implements mandates.

  • Insight into EIF’s product offering and how policy objectives are addressed.

  • Develop practical experience at the intersection of policy analysis, data management and business intelligence within a public institution.

Qualifications:

  • University degree (or on-going studies) in Business Administration, Finance, Data Analytics / Business Analytics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or similar discipline. Candidate may be enrolled in the final year of a master’s degree.

  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Good command of another EU language would be an advantage.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, lookups, structured data validation).

    • Familiarity with data visualisation and reporting tools (e.g. Power BI and/or Tableau); basic dashboard design experience is an advantage.

    • Basic understanding of AI agents (e.g. Co-Pilot) as well as relational data concepts (tables, fields, classifications, hierarchies); exposure to SQL or similar query languages is an advantage.

    • Interest in business intelligence, data analytics, artificial intelligences tools or information management systems applied to investment and portfolio analysis.

    • Prior exposure to Client Relationship Management(CRM), portfolio management or financial databases (e.g. internal systems, PitchBook, Preqin, Capital IQ) is a plus.

  • Quality focus and high level of accuracy in data analysis.

  • Strong sense of ethics with the ability to keep sensitive information confidential.

  • Strong ability to organize and follow up on tasks with colleagues across the institution.

  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts, tools, and methodologies.

  • Excellent team-working abilities.
