The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its Sustainability Unit of the Thematics and Advisory Division in the Mandate Design and Product Development Department in the Investment Office, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Trainee – Sustainability Analyst.
Duration: 5 months & Starting date: September 2026
Overall objective:
The overall objective of the project on which the trainee will be working is to develop an enhanced system for management of achievement of relevant KPIs under the Sustainability Guarantee. In particular you will:
Actively participate in the automation of the developed LTTs in different thematics, including monitoring of pipeline.
Actively monitor the implementation progress of relevant KPIs (Group Green Finance, SGT ) and inclusions under Sustainability Guarantee.
Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the senior of the team, you shall:
Contribute to the structuring, updating and quality-checking of LTT content and underlying inputs (e.g., sector/activity mapping, eligibility logic, assumptions), ensuring consistency across thematics and traceability of updates.
Support pipeline monitoring and data maintenance, including collecting inputs from relevant stakeholders, consolidating information in agreed trackers/tools, and flagging gaps, inconsistencies or follow-up needs.
Assist in KPI and Sustainability Guarantee monitoring, including preparing periodic extracts/summaries, supporting internal reporting materials, and escalating deviations or data issues in a timely manner.
Expected outcome:
LTT automation workstream is fed with reliable, structured and up-to-date inputs.
Pipeline and KPI/SGT monitoring deliverables are maintained regularly (clear status, follow-ups tracked, issues flagged early), supporting management oversight and decision-making.
Improved data quality and documentation for sustainability monitoring
Qualifications:
University degree (completed or ongoing) in Business Administration, Finance, Business Intelligence, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Law, or a related discipline. Candidates may be enrolled in the final year of a Master’s programme.
Relevant coursework or exposure to data analysis and climate- or sustainability-related topics would be an advantage.
Strong analytical and numerical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good working knowledge of other Microsoft applications (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
Excellent command of written and spoken English; knowledge of another EU language would be an asset.
Basic understanding of climate and sustainability concepts and sustainable finance.
Ability to work with quantitative and qualitative data and supporting documentation in a structured, accurate, and reliable manner.
Good analytical and organisational skills, with attention to detail and consistency across datasets and documents.
Knowledge of digital tools, including AIβenabled tools, for data analysis, drafting, or process support.

Quality focus and high level of accuracy in data analysis.
Strong sense of ethics with the ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
